The study population consisted of participants in the third wave of the population-based Nord-Trøndelag Health Survey (HUNT3), conducted between October 2006 and June 2008 in the county of Nord-Trøndelag Nord-Trøndelag].
Attrition analyses were conducted in order to examine whether those adolescents who were still participants in the fifth wave of the study (n = 1,099; 78.1 %) differed from those who dropped out before the fifth wave (n = 300; 22.9 %).

It is important that cognitive testing be presented in a non-threatening manner and that participants in the initial wave of such studies be reassured about their performance.
Participants in the third wave of the Nord-Trøndelag Heansweredvey (HUNT3) answered questions regarding alcohol use in the last 4 weeks, weekly alcohol consumption last twelve months, typical weekly binge drinking and typical number of alcoholic drinks consumed in a 14 day period.
Participants assessed in the second wave of data collection (544 participants: twins, siblings, parents, offspring of twins and siblings and spouses of twins and siblings) completed seven subtests of the WAIS-IIIR: Block design, Letter-number sequencing, Information, Matrix reasoning, Arithmetic, Vocabulary and Digit symbol-coding.
Participants assessed in the first wave of data collection (770 participants: twins and siblings) completed eleven subtests of the WAIS-IIIR: Block design, Letter-number sequencing, Information, Matrix reasoning, Similarities, Picture completion, Arithmetic, Vocabulary, Digit symbol-coding, Digit symbol pairing and Digit symbol-free recall.
The X-ray series detected gastric pathologies meriting an endoscopy in 34% of participants in the first wave and in 20% in the second wave (Table 2).
