Then, the intersection parts of ROIs were mapped to the corresponding DWI images to produce the final infarct location through multimodal registration, as shown in Figure 3.
In fact, there were slightly more image pixels in the ventral part of the ROI (166 ± 44 (mean ± SD) ventral vs. 143 ± 23 dorsal; P = 0.02).
To determine the most important part of the ROI, we introduce a read-depth significance score Q(g), which reports how often reads were part of a region for a predefined significance level.
Classification analysis within each selected part of the ROI was performed using randomly drawn groups of 160 voxels, repeating this process 5000 times, and averaging the accuracy over all draws.
Whether a cluster was considered part of an ROI or not was determined from whether the local maximum voxel was contained within the label of the same name in the Automated Anatomical Labeling (AAL) atlas [ 70].
This was due to the overlap ratio being significantly smaller in the anterior part of the ROIs than in either the posterior part of the ROI [t(5) = 7.41, P < 0.001] or the cortical volume posterior to the ROIs [t(5) = 6.68, P < 0.002].

However, after normalizing the regional Crs to the number of pixels in the respective parts of the ROI, there was still a significantly higher Crs in the ventral part, when assessed with the PEEP wave and with the low-flow loop.

Given the close proximity of insula and claustrum, and the spatial resolution of the acquired DW images, it is possible that some claustral gray matter was included in the ventral part of the insular ROI used to perform probabilistic tractography.
