The nature of unsupervised classification makes it well suited to address such questions; however, there are some concerns that results can be too general (i.e., classes are broadly defined) as most applications seek parsimonious solutions to the problem at hand [ 1, 5].
As a non-trivial illustrative application of our parsimonious model Fig. 2 shows the impact of parameter fluctuations on two relevant neurocomputational properties, namely, neural response to current input and membrane refractoriness.
These results were achieved through the application of a parsimonious model fitting strategy designed to avoid optimism due to overfitting.
However, we have to allow a flexible model so that a possible rejection of the intended raw sum score approach does not depend on an application of a too parsimonious model.
A low-order, simple nonlinear and parsimonious model is often required in real applications.
