Parkway were like nothing else in the still-nascent Aussie metalcore scene: five surfers from Byron Bay who didn't bother with complex guitar noodling, metal attitude, costumes (unless you count thongs and boardies) or grandiose solos.

Even the introduction of new business strategies -- like adding new Hollywood movies into the programming mix, renting out the theater more often to festivals and filmmakers, going dark on slow nights -- has not saved places like the Parkway Speakeasy in the East Bay, which went out of business last year.
Mr. Dennison said many of the proposed remedies -- like widening the parkway in flood zones -- would simply move the problem elsewhere.
"Today, the land the parkway rolls through looks more like a forest than a park, and the cars go a little too fast to make it safe for a stroll," Ms. Smyth said.
The Parkway was just across Featherstone, with like a million arteries and cloverleafs or whatever sprouting out of it.
Tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles are prohibited from using parkways in New York, like the Jackie Robinson Parkway in Brooklyn and Queens and the Saw Mill River Parkway in Westchester County.
