During the pregnancies of overweight women at risk for GDM, the top five most commonly used healthcare services were: midwifery (mean=8.5, SD=5.4), gynaecology (mean=4, SD=4.9), paramedical professional (mean=2.3, SD=5.5), general practice (mean=2.2, SD=2.5), hospitalisation (mean=0.7, SD=3.4).
Nevertheless, such resources prove to be useful for medical and paramedical professionals.
In a North American survey, 22% of family members of VS patients and 30% of physicians considered the patient to have some sort of awareness of pain and suffering[36]; a recent European survey of 2,059 medical and paramedical professionals showed that a high proportion of medical doctors (56%) and paramedical professionals (68%) considered that VS patients may feel pain[37].
Access to paramedical professionals appears to be limited.
