Last month, a government panel asked for radical changes in medical practices, declaring that deaths from heart disease could be lowered substantially if people with high cholesterol changed their diets or began taking cholesterol-lowering drugs.
Journalist Pamela Philipose writes in The Indian Express that "in time, it became clearer that the panel's most radical suggestions had been put on ice".
It remains to be seen whether Obama endorses his panel's (not especially radical) recommendations.
