Monet's most famous painting Impression, Sunrise (1872) dives into the half-light of dawn.
Monet's painting Impression: Sunrise (1872; Musée Marmottan, Paris) earned them the initially derisive name "Impressionists" from the journalist Louis Leroy writing in the satirical magazine Le Charivari in 1874.
The installation's title comes from Claude Monet's 1872 painting, Impression, Soleil Levant, a depiction of the Le Havre harbor at the end of the 1870 1871 Franco-Prussian war, just as industrialization was kicking into overdrive.
His works were exhibited in 1874, 1876, 1877, and 1882, alongside works by painters known as "impressionists" (from the word "impression" used in the 1872 Monet painting "Impression, soleil levant").
