When the Hm-X1 probe was hybridized to karyomorph D, two chromosomes were completely painted in females, corresponding to both X1 chromosomes; in males, one chromosome was completely painted, corresponding to the X1 chromosome, and half of another chromosome was painted, corresponding to the Y chromosome (termed neo-Y).
They then traced the squares, applied tape, and spray-painted the corresponding regions grey.
These clades agreed with the grouping of high correlation group and low correlation group in table 3. To find the relationship of VLGs and the gene clusters in the real genomes, the VLGs were mapped back onto the real genomes, and the orthologs were painted in corresponding colors (fig. 8).
