This is a method that lets web pages update parts of themselves a share-price ticker or an e-mail inbox, say without having to reload and redraw the rest of the page, resulting in web pages that behave less like documents and more like pieces of software.
It's great for artists, because they can tweak the look of their page, re-position widgets and so on without putting in a lot of effort because their pages update themselves through connectivity with those other third party platforms.

Comments will also be sorted according to how much discussion they've sparked (this sounds a lot like the sorting feature in Facebook's new Pages update).
Menlo Park based Cuil will launch later this evening with an index of 120 billion web pages, making them arguably the most comprehensive search engine on the web (Google doesn't disclose the size of their index, although they claim to know about a trillion unique web pages) (Update: see our very early testing here).
