Nearly all of this light is produced by the oxidization of the molecule luciferin, a reaction catalyzed by the enzyme luciferase.
The oxidization is continued until the oil barely flows at reaction temperature; then the oil is blended with resin in heated kettles and the mixture is exposed to hot air.
But there is something that works: a small disposable heating pad, the size of a bar of hotel soap, that generates heat when the package is unsealed (owing to the exothermic oxidization of iron filings, duh).
On machines here, they are lined with paper filters, filled with coffee, topped off with nitrogen gas to prevent oxidization, and sealed with foil.
Lastly, the entire work is covered in a sealing agent to protect against further oxidization.
