This can be due to flying past their destinations as in the "spring overshoot" in which birds returning to their breeding areas overshoot and end up further north than intended.
Specifically, this class of models is designed so that it has the following properties: (I) Stimulation of the production term, which raises the steady state Rss, causes an overshoot and a rebound upon return to baseline.
Results in Fig. 1A,B indicate the sugar uptake by both fresh and frozen vesicles in NaCl medium displayed an initial uptake overshoot followed by a slow return to similar equilibrium values at 60 min.
The responses at this depth exhibited a negative peak at 32.7 ± 4.0 ms after stimulus onset, followed by a rapid return to baseline with little subsequent overshoot (see Fig. 5A).
(III) Inhibition of the loss term, which raises the steady state Rss, causes an overshoot which is larger than the rebound upon the return to the baseline.
With a new heater cycling, where the heater is on for a short time and then off for a long enough time for the dusty plasma conditions to return to its undisturbed conditions, a PMSE overshoot effect is produced.
In contrast, responses in the 7-NI-treated mice were characterized by negative signals at all cortical depths, and a slow return to baseline with little or no overshoot, on average (Figs 11B and 12A).
These CSF lipid levels reached a minimum at 7 months, a return to baseline at 15 months, an overshoot that peaked at 24 months and a drop towards baseline at 36 months.
After the onset of stimulation, the BOLD response rose quickly, yielding a robust sustained (∼38 40 s) positive response with an overshoot, and after the cessation of stimulation, the response returned to the baseline gradually.

When the electrodes were positioned ventral to 1.2 mm, the amplitude (and slope) of the initial decrease became smaller, and the return to baseline became slower, but with no consistent overshoot above baseline.
