"overarching storyline" is a correct and commonly used phrase in written English.
It refers to the main or central plot that ties together all of the smaller subplots in a story. Example: "The overarching storyline of the fantasy novel was the journey of the chosen one to defeat the evil sorcerer and restore peace to the kingdom."
