Management of urban lakes, and indeed many aquatic ecosystems, is often reactive and is instigated in response to poor aesthetic quality or dictated by physicochemical measurements, rather than from an overall assessment of ecosystem health (Rapport,1998; Karr & Chu,1999; Likens et al., 2009).
