In the outer sector of the Northern Apennines, ancient carbonate-bearing thrusts are exposed at the surface and represent analogues of structures generating seismicity at depth.
Within the sectors of GB an increasing gradient in mollusc diversity and occurrence was observed, ranging from the azoic and impoverished stations in the inner sector to a well-structured community in terms of species composition and abundance inhabiting the outer sector.
We defined an inner sector S1 representing the central animal cells, and an outer sector S2 representing the more vegetally located and marginal cells (Fig. 5D).
Corneal thickness average varied almost 130 μm from the central to the outer sector but the COV remained constant and under the 5% for the three zones.
In the latter, coral framestone occupied the inner sector (reef flat), while the facies association dominated by boundstone with Ellipsactinia sp. developed in the outer sectors (reef wall), adjacent to the fore-reef and upper slope environments.
The grid was subdivided in nine independent sectors: a central sector (C) within 500 ?m from the fovea, four inner sectors within 500 to 1,500 ?m from the fovea (iSUP, iTEM, iINF, iNAS), and four outer sectors within 1,500 to 3,000 ?m from the fovea (oSUP, oTEM, oINF, oNAS).
The mean thickness of each sector was automatically measured within 500 ?m from the center of the fovea in the central sector; 500 to 1,500 ?m from the center of the fovea in four juxtafoveal or inner sectors (superior, inferior, nasal, and temporal), and 1,500 to 3,000 ?m from the center of the fovea in four extrafoveal or outer sectors (superior, inferior, temporal, and nasal).
The thickness in the inner sectors was significantly thicker than in the outer sectors.
The size of these outer sectors was based on reaching the appropriate buffer zone length of ∼0.5 km in length.
Within the outer sectors, the thickest area was the superior (270.1 um), followed by the inferior (268.0 um), nasal (249.9 um), and temporal (244.3 um).
The buffer zone consisted of two inner sections receiving ITPS or UPS as per their respective, adjacent, outer sectors, but without the epidemiological monitoring.
