Sure, we should save our accolades for the many people who have transcended difficult beginnings without abusing drugs, racking up a rape conviction and biting off a piece of another guy's ear.
This kind of discussion is normal between scientists to establish boundaries; but importantly, the differences in the stages of our careers and our accolades never came into the discussion.
I said, "We are unique in that we only feel as good as our last gig". It doesn't matter what you've done or how many awards you have lined up on your mantle, if the gig sucked last night, you start thinking, "Maybe I need to figure out something else to do". It's pretty common among musicians, that we don't ever rest on our accolades.

These people deserve our accolades, certainly, but the success of a few doesn't mean an oppressed minority is triumphant.
