Peritonitis was induced by the intraperitoneal injection of either type A zymosan (1 mg for all experiments unless otherwise stated), group B streptococcus (GBS), or LPS (1 mg/kg; Sigma-Aldrich, St Louis, MO), and cells were enumerated by haemocytometer at time points stated in "Results" by sterile phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) washout.
