This differential training effect, as reported previously under similar conditions (e.g. Saumweber et al., 2011; see also Scherer et al., 2003), manifested at a baseline level of a slight preference for AM and thus as a strong attraction to AM in the AM-rewarded group (Fig. 2A: OSS test, P<0.05/2) and a weak attraction to OCT in the OCT-rewarded group (Fig. 2A: OSS test, P>0.05/2).
Under such conditions, the WT group approached the odour, whereas the Orco mutant group did not (Fig. 3A: OSS tests, P< and >0.05/2 for either genotype, N = 40, 40; a between-group comparison with a MWU test yields P<0.05, U = 389.5) (Fig. 3C: OSS tests, P< and >0.05/2 for either genotype, N = 40, 40; MWU test P<0.05, U = 469.5).
