Dr. Coleman, a geriatrician and professor of medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, is director of the Care Transitions Program, which trains nurses and social workers to help patients and their caregivers manage issues like medication use and organizing appointments.
From keeping track of and organizing appointments, contacts and medications to finding and coordinating with the best caregivers, the process can feel like a full-time job — let alone having to worry about keeping all of that information private and secure.
Even when the user was capable and largely independent, care providers felt that ultimately they assumed responsibility for organizing appointments and transportation matters or anticipating issues that might impact participation in activities outside the home.
One noteworthy detail is the proportion of students who use computers for organizing appointments, to do lists, or making notes: 28% use such a personal organizer software several times per week, which may point to the use of personal digital assistants (PDA) or smart cell phones.
Don't organize appointments like this too often or you might be seen as a nuisance.
Participants commonly mentioned personal systems like calendars and alarms for organizing appointment schedules.
However, on a practical level, it would have been very difficult with our large data set to keep track of these critical incidents for every participant and to be able to organize researcher appointments to conduct interviews.

Organization is one of my greatest strengths, and in 2014 alone, I was able to successfully schedule approximately two doctors' appointments a week for five months (most after working hours) while working full-time, coordinating among medical imaging facilities and various specialists and organizing each appointment in a color-coded calendar.
