Factors, levels and interactions are varied within limits selected to match realistic materials and sampling situations that mimic, e.g., sampling for genetically modified organisms; sampling of geological drill cores; sampling during off-loading 3-dimensional lots (shiploads, railroad cars, truckloads etc).
MDA levels and CAT activities were also measured in situ in organisms sampled in a control site (Metis Beach, Québec, Canada) as well as organisms sampled in a site receiving domestic effluents (Pointe-au-Père, Québec, Canada), to assess effects of abiotic variables related to seasonal variations and mixed contamination on the selected parameters.
Also the elevated percentage of nylon, polypropylene lines and the presence of polystyrene are quite unusual for marine organisms sampled in natural field conditions, thus supporting the possible relationship of ingested microplastics with maritime operations during wreck removal.
Thus a correlation is evident amongst the organisms sampled between the presence of ciliated cells which divide and the diversity of Neks (Figure 1).
Furthermore, by including protein-coding genes, metagenomics can more accurately predict the biology of the organisms sampled, thus disclosing not only who is out there, but also what they are doing [32], [33], [34].
Irrespective of the organisms, samples mapped to their corresponding raw file identifiers are vital for running large-scale analysis.
Comparative genomic and phylogenetic analyses suggest that cell-cycle CDKs are present in all organisms sampled in this study.
They are a powerful tool for genome evolution as they can harbor and transfer genes between organisms, sampling all genomes within an ecosystem (Norman et al. 2009).
Ideally, samples are taken in a laboratory under optimal conditions, where they can be processed immediately, but for most investigations on soil organisms samples have to be collected directly in the field.
