Students of amnesia have been increasingly impressed by the frequency with which psychogenic factors appear to reinforce, prolong, or otherwise complicate an organic memory defect.
Studies which included children with specific diseases (such as diabetes, dyslexia, deafness or congenital diseases) and organic eye defects (such as congenital glaucoma, cataract, retinoblastoma) were excluded.
Control subjects will be excluded if they have (1) any neurological illness, as assessed according to clinical evaluations and medical records and (2) organic brain defects on T1 or T2 images.
It does not apply, however, if the symptom is the result of an organic illness or defect or other mental disorder.
