My notebook contains words scribbled on dusty, crumpled pages that include, in order of descent, "glorious Alpine scenery", "rooty, pine-scented woodland trails", "sunny forest glades", "wild-flower meadows and tumbling streams".
Furthermore, the phylogenetic reconstruction of EIT of Firmicutes agrees with the expected order of organismal descent for this group (Fig. S6, Additional file 2).
The topology of the tree of EIT sequences of VPES as an ingroup was compatible with the order of organismal descent inferred from the 16S rRNA (p = 0.437 in the Shimodaira-Hasegawa test; Fig. S5C, Additional file 2).
While the topology of the tree retained a comb-like appearance, all nodes were resolved with high bootstrap support in accordance with the temporal order of their descent from the progenitor.
Since the observed topology of the ptsI tree is congruent with the expected order of organismal descent (Fig. S6, Additional file 2) and both genes are present in most actinobacterial species included in this study, it is likely that both genes were present in the last common ancestor of Actinomycetales and at least ptsI was inherited vertically.
Reasons for this proposal will be discussed in the section dedicated to group T. The phylogenetic relationships inferred from the sequences of FPr proteins are in agreement with the most accepted order of organismal descent represented by the 16S rRNA phylogeny (Fig. S6, Additional file 2).
Due to the absence of recombination during meiosis for this Y chromosomal portion, it is possible to define the hierarchic descent order of all human NRY variants and to infer the order and time of their descent in the phylogenetic tree, as the coalescence theory describes [ 1].
