The Orbit project got its start in 2009 after Mr. Johnson ran into Lakshmi N. Mittal, the chief executive of the huge steel maker ArcelorMittal and one of the world's richest men, at the coat check room at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Estimates of the frequencies of various discrepancies in reporting are based only on data from the randomly selected cohort identified from PubMed, because trials identified from the ORBIT project were not randomly selected.
The study reported here was part of the larger Outcome Reporting Bias in Trials (ORBIT) project to estimate the prevalence and effect of outcome reporting bias in clinical trials on the primary outcomes of systematic reviews from three issues of the Cochrane Library: issue 4, 2006; issue 1, 2007, and issue 2, 2007.
For some trials from Cochrane reviews identified by the ORBIT project, we already suspected outcome reporting bias if trials did not report or partially reported results for the review primary outcome on the basis of all identified publications for that trial.
