Although many genes were similarly regulated between the two splice variants some were found oppositely regulated, indicating different functional roles of TXNRD1_v2 ascribed to the N-terminal domain of that protein.
Interestingly too, in many microorganisms, the genes encoding a DNA-binding regulator protein (C3- or C4-LysR) were located just before the corresponding C3 or C4 operon and oppositely oriented, indicating that transcription of the LysR regulator protein is self-repressed, as in the case of P. denitrificans (see Fig. 2).
