Data on the operative procedure and the post-operative period such as operating time, intra-operative complications, post-operative need for analgetics and duration of the hospital stay were obtained from patient records.
Post-operative recovery was rapid although post-operative need for analgetics was present in six of eight patients and ranged from 5 days to intermittent use of oral pain-relieving medication for up to 24 weeks (two of eight patients) with a median time of 11 weeks.
Therefore, peri-operative need for blood products, including FFP and platelets, was determined on an individual basis.
This limit has not changed since and the low limit has restricted the flexibility co-operatives need to raise funds for expansion and capital investment.
By univariate analysis, several additional factors were associated with in-hospital mortality, including older age, higher APACHE II score, greater intra-operative blood loss, need for peri-operative vasoactive support, acute ECG changes and development of AKI, CHF or cardiogenic shock in the post-operative period (Table 3).
In the subgroup of operative hysteroscopy the need for dilatation and the duration of the procedure were also significantly reduced.

We identified one intra-operative (higher cardiopulmonary bypass time) and two post-operative (a longer need for vasoactive drugs and higher arterial lactate 24 hours after admission) predictors of AKI.
This study demonstrates that the risk of post-operative complications or the need for post-operative intervention is not heightened if the initial IOP is low.
Nevertheless, this cannot undermine the importance of careful and meticulous planning of peri-operative care needed for octogenarians, as THA and TKA is increasingly performed in this population.
