An education specialist from Cape Province, South Africa, Venter had discovered Operation Respect on the Internet and had come to the United States to spend two months studying it.
"The principals gave a tremendous response to it, and said, 'We need this in our schools,' " Chic Dambach, Operation Respect's president and C.E.O., said the other day.
Over the course of the next year, the Department of Education will introduce into all of its elementary and middle schools "Operation Respect: Don't Laugh at Me," an intensive curriculum in character development.
He wants to talk about Operation Respect, an educational program he founded to eliminate "the bullying and teasing and ridicule that is so much an affliction in our times" in the schoolroom.
He said if no such efforts exist in your school, you should offer to lead the effort, or suggest that the school administration seek outside help from organizations like the Morningside Center or Operation Respect, which run workshops and trainings for school staff and students to help them understand the dangers of a culture that allows bullying to exist and how to combat such a climate.
He added: "The response from the public prior to the arrival of the Mounted Branch has been extremely positive and we hope they will help in our efforts, as part of Operation Respect, to keep members of the public safe.
On behalf of Operation Respect, Peter has performed from Hong Kong and Vietnam to Croatia, South Africa, Egypt, and Argentina.
I believe that the work of Operation Respect may be the best way for us to address the great challenges of our time.
