Intra- and interlobular septa as well as ‚ground-glass'-like opacities, air bronchograms and multiple indentations in the pulmonary pleura were seen caudodorsally on both sides.
In addition, for instance abscesses, bullae, septal thickening, mosaic perfusion, ground glass opacities and air trapping are evaluated in some CT scoring systems.
Total opacity or air-fluid level, larger than half of the sinus area, defined important RMS.
In addition, abscesses, cysts, bullae, thickened inter- or intra-lobular septa, mosaic perfusion, ground glass opacities and air-trapping can be evaluated with computed tomography (CT).
The typical radiological findings in a viral infection include perihilar linear opacities, hyperinflation with air trapping and atelectasis (Fig. 2).
Findings suggestive of recurrent disease in the radiation field include an alteration in the contour of the radiation fibrosis with an increase in size, convex borders, appearance of homogeneous opacity with obliteration of the air bronchogram and filling of the bronchi (Fig. 3) [34].
Findings in viral infections are related to their location in the airways, where inflammation and necrosis lead to peribronchial oedema, presenting as bilateral perihilar linear opacities, peribronchial markings, hyperinflation and air trapping (Fig. 5).
However, extensive ground-glass opacity, profuse micronodules, cysts, diffuse air-trapping or alveolar consolidation in the upper/mid lobes are more likely to be "inconsistent with UIP".
Scans were evaluated for presence or absence of air trapping, ground glass opacities, bronchiectasis, and bronchial wall thickening.
Chest roentgenographs may demonstrate infiltrates, patchy air-space consolidation, or opacity associated with pleural reaction or thickening, single or multiple nodules, cystic lesions, cavities, pleural thickening, and nodular opacities [ 150, 155].
In the non-responders some abnormalities improved (mucous plugging, centrilobular abnormalities, airway wall thickening and ground glass opacities), but bronchial dilatation, consolidation and air trapping worsened.
