Consider the well-worn image of a room filled by a giant beach ball, painted one half white and one half black.
Die one half black, one half yellow.
And about one-quarter of white respondents said they thought that too much had been made of racial barriers facing black people, while one-half of black respondents said not enough had been made of racial impediments faced by blacks.
The percentage reached almost one-half for black and Hispanic respondents, and more than half for single mothers.
Later, another dancer, Spenser Theberge, wore a two-sided costume — one-half was black, the other white — while mimicking the conversation in Stan Freberg's 1950s satirical recording "John and Marsha".

Analyzing data from eight elite colleges (five private, three public) from 1999 and 2003, my colleague Alexandria Walton Radford and I found that one-half of black students and one-third of Hispanic students graduated in the bottom 20 percent of their class.
While the overall national unemployment rate now stands at 4.5%, in recent years between one-third and one-half of black male high school graduates have been unemployed.

2. Season with 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, or to taste (amount of salt can vary depending on the brand of tomato juice, if purchased), one-half teaspoon each of black pepper and cayenne pepper, and one-fourth teaspoon each of the Tabasco, lemon juice and olive oil.
