However, the patients in this study were partly selected based on reactivity in one screening test (VIDAS) and the observed percentage discrepancies may be overestimated.
In our control group with autoimmune diseases other than SSc (n = 259), there were eight anti-PM/Scl-positive sera with non-overlapping reactivities: On the one hand, reactivity to PM/Scl-100 (E. coli) was found in 1 out of 49 patients with SS (2%) and in 3 out of 72 patients with SLE (4.2%).
