The possible effect of cocirculating influenza viruses on the pathogenicity of highly pathogenic H5N1 in Vietnam, Thailand, and elsewhere in Asia has not been resolved.
At least eight of the nine Helitron copies on the pathogenicity chromosome are intact; one is truncated by a sequence gap (Additional file 1).
