To examine this question more robustly, we individually scored the number of TRFLP peaks in plants that were uniquely associated with growth on its native soil (i.e. not shared with seed or plants grown on sand or Canadian soil); surprisingly, only 2% of TRFLP peaks fell into this class, compared to 3% of unique TRFLP peaks when Canadian soil was substituted.
