Data from the open-label phase showed that, at 24 months, etanercept was more effective than methotrexate in arresting structural damage on the basis of mean increases in total Sharp scores (1.3 versus 3.2 units, P = 0.001) and erosion scores (0.7 versus 1.9 units, P = 0.001) [ 24].
