Similar to the results in the present study, the differential effect of various concentrations of BAP on the induction of multiple shoots has earlier been reported for Gossypium (Agrawal et al. [1997]), Salix (Agrawal and Gebhardt [1994]), Pisum (Jackson and Hobbs [1990]) Phaseolus (McClean and Grafton [1989]) and Glycine (Cheng et al. [1980]).
Deregulated expression of cJun induces immortalised rat fibroblasts to grow in an anchorage-independent fashion (Schutte et al, 1989) depending on the induction of multiple cJun target genes (Kinoshita et al, 2003; Leaner et al, 2003, 2005; Hommura et al, 2004; Katabami et al, 2005).

In an earlier report on G. scabra, induction of multiple shoots in axillary buds of was achieved on MS medium supplemented with gibberlliin A3 (Gand and BA (1 mg/L−1 each) (Yamada et al. [1991]).
For induction of multiple shoots, explants were cultured on Murashige and Skoog's (Murashige and Skoog [1962]) salts and vitamins, hereinafter referred as MS basal medium (MSBM).
Induction of multiple shoots (9.1/explant) was achieved on the culture of shoot apices on half strength Murashige and Skoog's basal medium (MSBM) containing 2.0 mg/L−1 6-benzylaminopurine (BA), 3% sucrose and 0.9% Difco agar.
