Konig said that, as a survivor, she wanted to tell her story on behalf of the Franks and all the other victims of the Holocaust.
The Republican Majority Issues Committee, a two-year-old group that had some impact on Congressional races in New York and Michigan last year, set up shop recently in New Jersey on behalf of Mr. Franks's rival, Bret D. Schundler.
Today alone, Mr. Franks's aides poured more than $1 million into television and radio commercials and a last-ditch get-out-the-vote operation, including recorded telephone calls and more than 700,000 letters to voters from Republican congressmen, state lawmakers and mayors on behalf of Mr. Franks.
But now, with only a few days before primary voters head to the polls, the state's Republicans here are vowing to redouble their efforts on behalf of Mr. Franks, particularly with Mr. Schundler's supporters on the right increasingly energized.
The trades show how difficult it is to determine whether an institution is improperly trading for its own account, against the "Volcker rule" provisions of the Dodd-Frank act, or acting legitimately on behalf of its customers.
