What drives Europeans craziest are Parker's famous scores, which over here are his chief claim to fame; more so than his unreadable wine reviews, with their bizarre olfactory images.
Visual images appeal to your sense of sight, auditory images appeal to your sense of hearing, olfactory images appeal to your sense of smell and tactile images appeal to your sense of touch.
To image olfactory bulbs, we coupled two lenses (Nikon Telephoto 105 mm f/1.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens and Nikon Normal 50 mm f/1.2 AIS Manual Focus Lens, Nikon Corporation, Melville, NY) using a 62 mm to 52 mm stepdown ring and a 52 mm to 52 mm coupling ring.
In the olfactory bulb the images unraveled the mitral cell layer which has a thickness of mostly single cells.
In situ hybridisation revealed that TG6 expression is widespread in the brain (Fig. 3b), most prominently within the cell layers containing the neuronal cell bodies of the cerebral cortex (particularly layers II IV containing granular neurons and pyramidal cells) (image d), olfactory lobe (data not shown; see Fig. 3c, image c) and the cerebellum (Purkinje cells) (image g).
D. There are two likely explanations for the appearance of a nuclear ring in some of our IF images: 1) olfactory neurons have a single or small number of large central chromocenters that are not stained with anti-FLAG antibodies, leading to the appearance of stronger staining on the nuclear periphery (for example, see Figure 13D).
Functional imaging experiments in mammals and honeybees suggest a mechanism of odor coding that translates discrete patterns of activity in olfactory glomeruli into an odor image.
