The linkage procedure excluded 286 cases from the original sample (114 due to being outside the 17 – 65 year old age band, 86 due to having only archived psychiatric records, 84 due to irreconcilable multiple name matches in the VPCR, and four due to inaccuracy in date of birth match on the VPCR).
According to population census in 2011, the women in the 50 59-year-old 50 59-year-old 50 59-year-oldld, and ≥ 80 year-old age bands accounted for 60 69-year-old and 4% of the total women aged 50 years or older, respectively.
The risk was less for older age bands.
However, within the >65 years group, frailty syndromes are more prevalent with the older age bands.
Where participants' ages were above the maximum ages for the oldest age bands (up to 15 years, 8 months), they were scored as if in the oldest age band.
HCWs in younger age bands, particularly the ≤25 year-old group, were more likely to have been vaccinated than HCWs than older age bands (Table 1).
Male gender was associated with increased OR only in the youngest age band, with a lower OR in older age bands compared to females.
The location of the effect in older age bands, compared to the younger groups, is consistent with research in other world regions [ 23, 24].
More of the female respondents of this sample are in the older age bands and all the nurses are female (28.1%, n = 16).
Conversely, in the older age bands (> 65 years) for males the QALYs lost were slightly greater (approximately 4 months more) than the DALYs.
Similar to other studies in rural sub-Saharan Africa, our proportions for hypertension by measurement were higher in females than males especially in older age bands.
