In a separate development, the head of Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) Manfred Schmidt handed in his resignation on Thursday "for personal reasons".
The interior ministry, meanwhile, has faced withering criticism over its handling of the influx of asylum seekers and a backlog at the federal office for migration and refugees.
However, Carol Joseph, the director of the Haitian national migration office, insisted the wave of migration was economically motivated.
