Contact aureoles the surrounding zones of rock that become altered or metamorphosed vary in thickness from several centimetres (around tabular bodies such as dikes and thin sills) to several kilometres (around large granitic intrusions).
Osteopetrosis is known to result from a deficiency in the number and/or function of osteoclasts; indeed, in cases of inherited osteopetrosis in Angus cattle, few osteoclasts have been observed [ 6, 9, 10], and any existing osteoclasts lack surrounding zones of resorption [ 10].
To see how much volume is being accessed by the circulating water, we tested different widths of the surrounding zone (zone 4), ranging from 31 to 311 m.
Zone 2 was drawn with an equivalent width of 350 μm, to surround zone 1.
Recently, we described a review on ALs, which show disk space narrowing or widening, vertebral bone destruction, a surrounding zone of sclerosis, and local kyphosis at radiographs of the spine (Fig. 1) [ 7].
The AL is revealed by osteolytic destruction with a surrounding zone of reactive sclerosis and vertebral osteophytes [ 9].
As separation or width increases, the overlap between the heat-transfer volumes (subsection "Surrounding zone width") of adjacent doublets decreases.
Total number distribution of faults, fractures, breccias, and mineral veins in each of the intact zones, surrounding damage zones (sdz), and the brecciated zones in the footwall.
Molecular dynamics simulations revealed that the thermal conductivity dependent on the embedded particle size originated from the structurally altered interphase zone of surrounding matrix polymer in the vicinity of nanoparticles, and clearly indicate strong dominance of interfacial phonon scattering and dispersion.
The obtained cementation exponents of the surrounding damage zones and intact zones average 0.93 and 0.78, respectively.
