Two groups of subjects trained on a motor-skill task using their left hand – a paradigm known to result in overnight plastic changes in the contralateral, right motor cortex.
With the informed signed consent of subjects, trained PHMs administered questionnaires designed to gather sociodemographic and lifestyle information, including details of betel-quid chewing, smoking and consumption of alcohol.
A main step forward towards a broader usability of this technology even beyond rehabilitation was the drastic reduction of user training from 60 150 hours of subject training to less than 30 minutes of calibration [29], [2].

To get IRB clearance at my institution, which must be granted before the start of any research project, you need to complete on-line NIH protection of human subjects training, present a certificate of NIH training completion, fill out a long application and provide examples of informed consent documents that research subjects must sign before participating in the project.
Here, in each trial we first used data from all but one pair of subjects to train the classifier (i.e., we left a matched pair out in each trial).

In Figures 3 and 4, we demonstrate how the constructed gene clusters (denoted by their shared genes) identified different groups of subjects in training datasets and in test datasets, respectively, using a cluster visualization procedure (Additional file 1: Method S4).
