Eighteen of these studies reported a deleterious effect of increasing duration of RBC storage on clinically relevant outcomes[15 30, 41] (Table 2), whereas 14 of these studies did not demonstrate any effect of prolonged RBC storage (Table 3)[47–59].

Voltage clamp pulses of increasing duration were given from a holding potential of −80 to +40 mV, followed by repolarization to −110 mV.
A training paradigm of five bouts of exercise per week, with a ramped schedule of increasing duration, was retested on y1w67c23 flies, and additionally tested on two other genotypes, y1w1 and Oregon R (Fig. 2A,B,C).
Postprocessing framing yielded 17 frames of increasing duration (0.5 to 15 min).
To quantify the gain effect across the population, we compared the normalized response to photostimulation of increasing duration both in the presence and absence of inhibitory synaptic transmission.
PET images were acquired on a Siemens ECAT 961 camera beginning with arrival of radiotracer in the head and continuing for 60 minutes using image frames of increasing duration.
Two depolarizing pulses to +20 mV were separated by intervals of increasing duration (from 20 to 460 ms in 40 ms increments) at -120 mV.

The increased risk for developing (nosocomial) infections may be the result of increased durations of mechanical ventilation [ 26, 27], ICU admission [ 27] and hospital admission [ 9], which we also found in our study.
