It is an important silver ore that occurs in deposits of hydrothermal origin associated with intrusive igneous rocks; significant amounts are found at Cobalt, Ont., Can., and at Broken Hill, N.S.W., Australia.
Based on XRD patterns of all the collected samples,[8] excepting two, discrete silica mineralization of hydrothermal origin appears to be minor.

Further support for the hydrothermal origin of this chemical signature, in opposition to magmatic refertilization processes, is provided by the lack of correlation between HFSE and LREE enrichments in our samples, since HFSE are immiscible in low-temperature aqueous solutions21,28,29 (Fig. 3a).
