One criticism of our study could be that might measure either awareness of, or compliance with reporting standards on the part of individual researchers or awareness and enforcement of reporting guidelines on the part of serial editors.
Finally while there is a risk of non-compliance with reporting the daily symptoms, especially over a three week period, we found that with these particular patients, who were all seeking help for the constipation symptoms, there was a willingness to comply and we are therefore confident that these data are an accurate representation of the symptoms in this population.
One study of reporting was conducted by Senaratne and Liyanagedara (2012) who examined the level of compliance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines in the disclosures of publicly listed companies, selected from seven business sectors.

Nine studies reported the degree of compliance with the checklist; one simply reported 97% compliance, and two others reported improvement over time (from approximately 60%to80%0% in one study, and from 85%to95%5% in another study).
