Human Rights Watch, a New York-based lobby, says the tiny Gulf nation has increased its use of arbitrary detention, ill treatment and torture of dissidents, including juveniles, over the past year.The lobby says the climate of "international impunity" is partly to blame.
The judge said he particularly wanted to see any emails relating to the men who are suing the government, and "any information showing actual knowledge on the part of any of the defendants of a serious risk of incommunicado or arbitrary detention, rendition, ill-treatment or torture of terrorist suspects by or at the behest of the United States authorities".
"The current allegations of torture and ill-treatment of detainees and arbitrary arrests already point to serious violations of human rights," he said, without giving details of the allegations.
However, they did not withdraw the allegations of ill-treatment of Iraqis.
It said: "Hundreds of arbitrary detentions, reports of torture and other ill-treatment, sweeping restrictions on freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and unfair trials in military courts are creating a climate of fear in Thailand, and there are no signs of a let-up".
Many of them have stories of torture and ill-treatment on their epic journeys across Africa.
In addition, many other elements of the ill-treatment, either singly or in combination, constituted cruel inhuman or degrading treatment.
Michael Ezenagu, 28, pleaded not guilty to three counts of ill-treatment and Neil Ferguson, 27, denied one count of ill-treatment.
Judges will consider whether Tarek Hassan suffered "arbitrary and unlawful" arrest and detention, with British authorities failing to investigate the circumstances of his detention, ill-treatment and death.
