(AP) WILDWOOD: BEACHES REOPEN The first ocean beaches to be closed to swimmers this season reopened yesterday after potentially harmful bacteria counts fell, the authorities said.
Ocean beaches are about 15 minutes away.
Neither village offers public access to ocean beaches.
As it happened, the storm added sand to many sections of city ocean beaches, he said.
There are two main ocean beaches in Provincetown: Herring Cove and Race Point.
Except when traffic swells, the ocean beaches are a 15- to 20-minute ride away.
Bay Shore is near ocean beaches at the Robert Moses State Park.
To date, tubes have been employed on Long Island for temporary erosion control along ocean beaches.
Still, "people enjoy greater mobility today, and they like the sandy ocean beaches better than muddy rivers," Mr. Nelsen said.
"Many people know the Hamptons as I do, a place of unspoiled ocean beaches and beautiful farmland," he said.
The ocean beaches of Fire Island are in the Fire Island National Seashore and open to all.
