As far as knowledge is concerned, less than half of the physicians consider that they receive sufficient information from the occupational physician (company doctor).
"There is an increase in employee scepticism towards occupational health doctors," explains Ball.
"In practice almost all occupational health doctors will say 'This is a management not a medical problem'," he says.
When it comes to occupational disability, doctors are required to perform very specific tasks.
Camp workshops were provided by nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, doctors, nutritionists, vocational counselors and recreational therapists.
"My little sister said that maybe she can be the occupational health doctor for LU because she is adamant that she wants to be a doctor," she said.
An occupational medicine doctor deposed by Scott Clippinger, a claimant lawyer, said he charged $550 an hour for an independent medical exam.
Doctors in five of the BMA's six branches voted by resounding majorities in favour of both courses of action, with only the 41 occupational-medicine doctors who voted bucking the trend.
