Two industrial hygienists blindly coded occupations and job titles for gasoline and diesel emissions.
Occupations and industry titles were assigned by one of two hygienists, who were blinded to case control status, using the Canadian Classification and Dictionary of Occupation codes (originally published in 1971 with revisions up until 1986), and Standard Industrial Codes [ 21].
For each job title, occupation and industry categories were coded according to the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (OCC)[ 19] and Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) [ 20], respectively.
The main determinants of job satisfaction were occupation; age; title; income; the career development, and wages and benefits subscales of work stress; and the recognition, responsibility and financial subscales of work motivation.
'Completed questionnaires' are those filled in by respondents who have provided information about at least their wage, gender, time of first job, occupation title and level of education.
