The best MME point position obtained by SAD comparator is further employed to produce the best matched reference block data and residual data which are important to other video encoding functions, such as mathematical transforms and motion compensation, and so forth.
On each kernel iteration, each GPU thread obtains the SAD costs for the sixteen 4 x 4 blocks into which both the current block and the opposite block can be divided for a specific position.
Other 6 block sizes in H.264, that is,,,,,, and, can be organized by the combination of basic blocks, shown in Figure 7, which also describes computing stages for each variable-sized block constructed on the basic blocks to obtain VBS SAD results.
The BAI3 structure was independently determined with experimental phases obtained by iodine-SAD data (a density modified map of the iodine-SAD data around the GPS site is shown in Supplementary Figure S7B, clearly indicating lack of cleavage in contrast to the CL1 structure).

Selenium sites were found with SHELXCD [21] and initial maps were obtained by PHASER in SAD mode [22].
Although the CENP-M crystals suffer from merohedral twinning, with a twinning fraction close to 50%, SAD phases obtained using Phenix AutoSol yielded an interpretable 2 Å experimental map.
Initial models were built into the 3.7 Å experimental SAD maps obtained from AutoSol (Terwilliger et al., 2009 ), as they were more informative than the phase-extended 3.5 Å maps.
