A report in today's Observer reveals the scale of anger and frustration felt by parents who adopt children, determined to provide them with a loving home, but get too little support along the way.

In the study by Weis and Lovejoy [ 20], the mothers also reported more than twice as many both positive and negative child behaviours as extensively trained independent observers, which led the authors to conclude that "mothers and observers used the scales differently, with mothers reporting higher levels of all behaviours" (p. 223).

The observer scale contains the previously mentioned six symptoms, which are rated using 5-point categorical scales (none, mild, moderate, marked, and severe).
The POSAS is a complete scar evaluation tool developed by plastic surgeons and consists of two numeric scales: the observer scar assessment scale (OSAS) and the patient scar assessment scale (PSAS).
But they also show what we can still achieve: that we do not have to be passive observers, trapped by the scale and magnitude of the Universe and its problems.
The authors suggested further studies to compare results by making patients, surgeons and independent observers fill out the scale.
