The observed temperature perturbations are then fit to the observed phase velocities (Fig. 4a) using the appropriate phase velocity kernels (Figure S6) and the thermal model to estimate dVs/dT and a geotherm.
As you might expect from a simple model based on flawed assumptions, as we show in our paper, it does a poor job in reproducing observed temperature changes.
