A general mechanism, identified in E. coli (but not in C. acetobutylicum yet) for the translation of leaderless transcripts, involves the initiation factors 2 (IF-2) and 3 (IF-3) [ 34], where a higher IF-2/IF-3 ratio would favor the transcription of leaderless transcripts, such as has been observed under a cold shock in E. coli [ 34].
