During an observation one person at work was observed and his or her work-related verbal expressions were tallied.
Early work by Elstein et al. [ 3] hinged upon observations of clinicians at work, and led to proposing a model of medical enquiry divided into cue acquisition, hypothesis generation, cue interpretation, and hypothesis evaluation.
This process included direct observation of drivers at work, distribution of a self-administered questionnaire to all drivers, and analysis of anthropometric problems using a computer-aided design package.
To answer this question, we conducted a qualitative study involving a review of key documents, interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) with FPs and their colleagues, as well as observation of FPs at work.
The first four phases comprise multiple modes of focussed, unobtrusive observation of professionals at work, to enable us to trace the conceptualisation and enactment of safety as revealed in dialogue and narrative, use of artefacts and space, bodily activity and patterns of movement, and in the accomplishment of specific work tasks.

If the more general observations about photography in "At Work" don't surprise, they do convince.
The participants were observed at their work places during ordinary computer work (observation time ranging from 10-15 minutes for each subject).
"The observation about his demeanor at work offered by a co-worker did not, to me, violate our prohibition about anonymous pejorative quotes," Sexton said.
